Bad luck for Folger on Dutch GP raceday

German rider finishes 17th at Assen after a tough race.

Jonas Folger and the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Moto2 team had a difficult race at Assen, in which two incidents on the opening laps seriously hindered his progress. The German rider would cross the line 17th.

After starting 22nd on the grid, Folger made good start, but a mistake by another rider forced the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing rider to go off-track momentarily, losing several positions in the process. Little by little, he fought back, but would have to run wide again – ending his quest for points. Folger concluded the Dutch GP 17th, after a race in which he was never able to show the fruits of his work during the weekend.

The next race for the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing team will be the German GP, Jonas Folger’s home round, at Sachsenring from July 5th-7th.

Johan Stigefelt – Team Director

“The most positive thing about the weekend was our FP1 pace on Friday. Since then, we haven’t improved, and that is what we have to analyse before the start of the next GP. We didn’t achieve what we expected in the race. We need to take a step forward at Sachsenring, at Jonas Folger’s home GP. We know that all the ingredients are there for a better result.”

#94 Jonas Folger

“In general, I think we started positively this weekend, but I’ve gradually lost my feeling with the bike. In the race, we chose the setup that I liked the most – the one that we used in FP3. I made a good start and took the first corner well, but right in front of me a rider was close to falling and I had to run off the track. I tried to get back on the pace, but I had some problems with the gearbox. I tried to overtake the first rider I caught at the chicane, and again had to run off-track. It was a very hard race. It was frustrating, because this is not the position we should be in. It’s a shame, but we have one more race ahead and I hope that all of our bad luck is over now.”
