Difficult qualifying for Folger at Assen

German rider will start from 22nd on the grid for the Dutch GP.

The PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Moto2 team had a tough Saturday at Assen, with a tricky qualifying for rider Jonas Folger. The stand-in rider will start from the eighth row of the grid for the Dutch GP, after missing the cut for Q2 in his second Grand Prix for the team.

Obliged to contest Q1, Folger finished the session in ninth, setting a best time of 1min 38.063secs. That meant that he would not progress to Q2, and will start from 22nd position at the Dutch GP – gaining a place due to a penalty given to another rider. The German could not lower his morning times during Q1.

Folger worked hard in FP3 and improved his times from Friday. The German would be in contention to make it directly into Q2, but would eventually miss out after placing 18th, with a time of 1min 37.710secs.

The 24-lap Moto2 race will get underway tomorrow at 12:20pm local time.

#94 Jonas Folger
“At the beginning of the day we were going in the right direction. I felt good on the bike and I was optimistic. We made some changes for the qualifying and I lost that feeling. It was a shame because we were slower than we were this morning, so we’ll have to return to the normal setup in the warm-up tomorrow and regain confidence on the bike. The objective is to fight for the points. We don’t have a good starting position and we have many riders ahead of us, so it will be a tough day, but I have to learn to fight in the race and overtake, which will not be easy.”
