German rider will start from 23rd position at the Catalan GP.
On Saturday at the Barcelona-Cataluya Circuit, Jonas Folger continued to take steps forward at his debut race as a PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Moto2 rider. The German finished 23rd in qualifying for the Catalan GP, on a weekend in which he is getting acquainted with his bike and returning to the Moto2 class for the first time in 3 years.
He was unable to make it out of Q1, in which he finished in ninth place with a best time of 1min 45.265secs. He will start from 23rd position on the grid at his first race as a PETRONAS Sprinta Racing rider.
Folger had further adapted to the Kalex in FP3 by improving his best time from yesterday by more than half a second, finishing in 20th position with a best lap of 1min 45.032secs, which was insufficient to go directly into Q2.
The 22-lap Moto2 race will take place tomorrow at 12:20pm local time.
#94 Jonas Folger
“It’s been a good day for us. In the end we have been improving our lap times. We are still looking for progress with our setup, and we still don’t know if I have to adapt my riding or if we have to adapt the bike to my style; we’ll see which path to follow. We will analyse the data we have and decide which direction to take. I think that if we can solve our balance problem, we can take things a step further. We have improved half a second today compared to yesterday, so if we can do that again tomorrow, we will be on the right track. We are happy with our progress.”
