Jonas Folger ends the day fourth overall on return to the Sachsenring
Jonas Folger made a return to past form at his home race, ending the first day at the German Grand Prix fast and confident on the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Kalex. His first return to the Sachsenring since fighting for the win as a MotoGP rookie in 2017, he topped the day’s first session before finishing the day fourth overall.
The German rider looked imperious in FP1, dominating the time sheet for most of the session before eventually finishing in P1. Concentrating on race pace for Sunday’s 28-lap race in the second session of the day, he ended the second session in 13th after completing 33 laps on his Dunlop tyres in preparation for the race.
Folger and his PETRONAS Sprinta Racing team will have another session of free practice tomorrow before the fight for pole position starts at 3.05pm local time (9.05pm Malaysian time).

“I’m very happy to come here and be so strong after a difficult weekend in Assen, because today’s results confirms for me that we are fast and consistent. I feel great on the bike, and that’s such an amazing feeling again. We’ve changed the plan for the weekend compared to Assen, trying to stay calm and link together what we’re doing. It means that we had a good result today and can go on to have an even better weekend. It was nice to be P1 in FP1, but we completed more than the race distance on the soft tyres and have great pace for the race.”
