Khairul Idham Pawi continues making progress at Qatar GP

PETRONAS Sprinta Racing rider breaks two-minute barrier to clock personal best lap of the weekend.

After the opening free practice sessions at the International Losail Circuit in Qatar yesterday, Khairul Idham Pawi continued working today as he focused on improving his feeling and performance levels on the second night of action.

With the first session taking place under the hot afternoon sun, the Malaysian rider continued to search for more confidence under braking, completing a total of 13 laps, with a best time of 2’01.010 that left him in 24th place.

The first ever Q1 session in the history of the intermediate class then saw Pawi clock his personal best lap time of the weekend, the number 89 defying the lower track temperature to break the two-minute barrier with a lap of 1’59.931, an effort that lifted him to 7th fastest in the session and 21st on tomorrow’s grid as a result.

Pawi is now looking forward to the opening race of the season, which gets underway at 6.20pm local time.

#89 Khairul Idham Pawi

“I am happy with a lap time of 1’59.931, which shows the step forward we made in qualifying. We are all very close in terms of the lap times – I am only 1.3 seconds off pole position – so I will give it my best in the race tomorrow and see what happens. My objective is to make it into the points so I will try to find the limit and push to my maximum. We are very clear about the setting of the bike for the race and I am feeling very determined.”
