McPhee and Sasaki target step forward at the French GP

The two PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Moto3 riders face the fifth round of the season at Le Mans this weekend.

PETRONAS Sprinta Racing riders Ayumu Sasaki and John McPhee head to Le Mans this weekend aiming to get back amongst the Moto3 frontrunners following a frustrating first European round of the Moto3 World Championship at the Spanish GP in Jerez.

Sasaki scored points for the second time this year in Jerez, but recognizes that a change to his practice session workplan could pay dividends in the race. He narrowly missed out on points at Le Mans last season and will be aiming to put this right at the French track this time around.

McPhee has competed at Le Mans on six occasions, with a best result of eighth from 2014. He scored points for the third time in the opening four races last time out in Spain, through finishing 12th in the race, having been up into sixth on the early laps.

The 22-lap Moto3 race will take place on Sunday, May 19th at 11:00am local time.

“I like the Le Mans Circuit; it’s a tough track but I love it. Last year was hard there, but I think this time around it will be a different story. We have changed our approach since Jerez and will focus in practice on preparations for the race rather than just outright one lap pace. The speed was there in Spain, but I didn’t do a good job in practice and our setup was not the best for the race duration. I can’t wait to get to France to put this new outlook into play.”

#17 John McPhee
“Le Mans is a circuit that I like a lot; it’s unique. It is always difficult to know what you are going to encounter there, since the weather can play a very important role during the weekend. It’s a track where I’ve been able to go fast in the past, regardless of the weather, so I’m looking forward to the weekend. We took a step forward at the Spanish GP, although in the race we had some problems that affected our result. We have taken a step in the right direction so now we have to show that at Le Mans.”
