PETRONAS Sprinta Racing rider completes 50 laps with his new Kalex on day one at Jerez – Angel Nieto Circuit.
After completing a private test at the Sepang International Circuit last week, Khairul Idham Pawi was back in action today for the first day of three at the Jerez-Angel Nieto Circuit. On a day split into three track sessions of an hour and ten minutes each, the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing rider and his crew got back to work on his new Kalex machine, with this being the penultimate test of the preseason before the championship starts for real at the GP of Qatar.
As the Moto2 riders rotated track sessions with their Moto3 counterparts, the Malaysian clocked up a total of 50 laps, with a best effort of 1’43.434 coming in the second session – leaving him in 30th position overall with a 2.2 second gap to the fastest lap of the day. Khairul Idham Pawi and his team spent this first day at Jerez working on the bike setting and his riding style.
Work continues at the first official test of 2019 for the intermediate category tomorrow, with three more sessions scheduled at the Jerez-Angel Nieto Circuit. The Moto2 bikes are due on track at 11:20am local time.

“Today hasn’t been an easy day here at Jerez but it is only the first day and we have room and time to improve tomorrow and the day after. We have spent a lot of time today working on the set-up of the bike and my riding style. Tomorrow we will continue to try different things and change the gearing of the bike. We are working very hard and hopefully we can take a big step forward tomorrow.”
