Last weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix was a momentous race for PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team. Not only did the eighth round of the World Championship see the team’s second podium, and a third pole position, but it marked the first time that the team used PETRONAS’s new Sprinta engine oil.
Showcasing the latest step of technical integration with PETRONAS products, developed in less than a year using PETRONAS proprietary base oil, and produced in its refinery in Malaysia, Sprinta has been uniquely formulated to suit the characteristics of the Yamaha YZR-M1. Sprinta is designed to boost the engine’s performance and reliability while enabling superior engine cleanliness.
The Dutch Grand Prix represented the best race results of the team to date, with Fabio Quartararo taking his and the team’s second podium finish with third place, and Franco Morbidelli matching his best-ever MotoGP finish of fifth.
The debut of PETRONAS Sprinta is the latest step of integration of PETRONAS products with the Yamaha YZR-M1 after the team started the season using PETRONAS Tutela transmission fluid.
Noor Afiza Mohd Yusof, General Manager, Brand Management Department, Group Strategic Communications PETRONAS
“PETRONAS is highly motivated to leverage on MotoGP to showcase our technology, products and people. When we first embarked on the project to develop products for the team, the timeline given was two years but in less than a year, we have already successfully assimilated two products into the bikes – Tutela (transmission fluids) and Sprinta (engine oil). We are proud to have reached this milestone at an accelerated pace and to have Fabio take pole and finish the race on the podium, with Franco in fifth position too, makes PETRONAS Sprinta debut even more special!”
Dr Andrea Dolfi, Head, R&D Fluid Technology Solutions, Technology Research, Group Research & Technology, Project Delivery & Technology, PETRONAS
“Sprinta is specially designed to deliver performance and reliability because in motorsports it’s pointless going faster and having more power if you damage the engine or do not finish the race. The key for this success is the close working relationship that we share with Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd.”
Wilco Zeelenberg, PETRONAS Yamaha SRT Team Manager
“We are very proud of our first race result using both PETRONAS Sprinta engine oil and Tutela transmission fluid. It has been highly impressive to see how quickly PETRONAS has responded to the unique challenges of MotoGP and been able to perform at the highest level from the off. To be on the podium for the first time with Sprinta oil feels fantastic to big compliments to everyone involved in this project. We are looking forward to further developments through the season.”
