The Italian rider has a great first day of Free Practice at the Le Mans Circuit.
Mattia Pasini had a positive first Moto2 outing with the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing at Le Mans today, as he prepared for his opening race as a stand-in for the team. The Italian participated in the two Free Practice sessions and earned a provisional spot in Q2, thanks to his placing fifth with a 1 min 36.694 secs lap.
In FP1 the World Championship veteran was seventh, courtesy of a 1 min 37.305 secs time on his final run. He spent much of the session in the top five, using the two sets of tyres and the same setup that provided positive results at the Jerez test. Pasini showed quick adaptation to the bike and the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing working methods.
He and his team of mechanics focused on improving the setup of the bike for the second and third sector of the track in FP2. Pasini would launch an attack on the timesheets late on in the session, clocking the fifth-fastest time with a 1 min 36.694 secs laps, so provisionally making the cut for Q2.
Tomorrow, sees an FP3 session in the morning, followed by qualifying at 3:10pm local time (Q1) and 3:35pm (Q2).
#54 Mattia Pasini
“It’s been a very good first day, because we did an excellent job. This morning we started out with a very good feeling, but we had to improve the front end of the bike a bit. We tried a different setup in the first part of the session but it didn’t work very well. We made an 180º change to our approach and this improved the bike and I could adapt my riding style to give me a better feeling. I’m happy because we achieved a good position with a good pace, which is the most important thing. Now we have to stay focused and continue working for tomorrow – and especially for the race. I want to thank Razlan Razali, Johan Stigefelt and PETRONAS for this amazing opportunity.”
