With his father a former champion, it’s no surprise that Jake has found his way to GP.
Racing is in the blood in Jake Dixon’s family, with his father Darren a former 500GP rider and Sidecar World Champion to boot! That meant an early start to his racing career for Jake, taking to track (and finishing third) in the prestigious Aprilia Superteens series in his native UK at only 13 years old.
Progressing through British championship racing from there, the highlight of Jake’s career before making the jump to Grand Prix racing were two exceptional years in the British Superbike championship in 2017 and 2018.
Winning two races and becoming the youngest ever rider to make it to the Showdown in his first full season in the class, he backed it up in 2018 with 16 podiums and second in the championship.
He moved to Moto2 for 2019, and despite injuries and an unfamiliarity with both the bike and most of the circuits, he was able to again show his talent on a number of occasions by taking points at Valencia and Assen. For his second season, it was all-change, joining the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing squad and moving to the Kalex chassis.
Jake showed remarkable progress, culminating with leading most of the French GP, highlighting his pace at potential. An unfortunate hand injury in Valencia meant he ended his season on the sidelines, but he is most certainly one to watch in 2021.
