John McPhee has motorcycle racing in his blood - and plenty of talent to go with it.
His father, a Scottish ex-racer, bought him a 50cc bike when he was five years old and so began his education on two wheels. By the age of twelve, he was competing in the Scottish Championship but was forced to pull out after just two races, when he was diagnosed with meningitis which ruled him out of racing for a year. In 2008 he bounced back as a triple Formula 125 Champion, taking the Scottish, Northern England and Melville titles.
McPhee made the odd 125cc World Championship appearance between 2009 and 2012 (when it changed to Moto3), and from 2011 to 2012 he also raced in the CEV, finishing seventh overall in his final season. In 2013 he became a full-time Moto3 World Championship rider, taking his first podium at Indianapolis in 2015 and repeating the feat at least once in every season since. In 2017 he also took his first top ten championship finish, after racking up 131 points.
McPhee has shown strong in his two seasons with PETRONAS Sprinta Racing, giving the team their first win at the French Grand Prix in 2019 and remaining in championship contention for much of 2020.
McPhee is now one of the most experienced riders on the Moto3 grid and is expected to be a force to reckon with in 2021.
