A brand new MotoGP team – from concept to podium success in only twelve months.
When Sepang International Circuit entered MotoGP’s entry-level category, Moto3, in 2015, few observers would have believed that four years later it would be represented not just in Moto3, but the next step up, Moto2, and in the premier class, MotoGP.
Not only that, in May 2019 PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team marked the anniversary of the first idea of a MotoGP team for the squad with French sensation Fabio Quartararo putting his bike on pole position in the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez and on the podium at the Catalan Grand Prix only three races later.
From there on it’s been strength to strength for the series’ youngest team, as rookie sensation Quartararo has continued to rack up front row starts and podium finishes. An impressive showing from team-mate Franco Morbidelli means that despite being in only their first year in the premier class, the squad are already in contention for the honour of top Independent Team.
