Vierge primed for Portugal Moto2 finale
New challenge of Portimão for Xavi Vierge this weekend
This weekend will see the 2020 Moto2 season come to a close with the Grande Prëmio de Portugal. PETRONAS Sprinta Racing’s Xavi Vierge is eagerly anticipating the season finale at Algarve International Circuit, a new addition to this year’s racing calendar. Teammate Jake Dixon will miss the last race of the 2020 season due to his fractured right wrist sustained at the Gran Premio de Europa.
Although the Portimão circuit will be a new challenge for many riders, as a new addition to the usual list of circuits visited by the MotoGP paddock, Vierge has enjoyed riding there in the past and is a circuit that he loves. As the Moto2 season comes to a close, the Spaniard will be hoping to put the difficulties of the past few races behind him, and end the season with a good result.
Xavi goes into the 15th round of the year with 73 points to his name, placing him tenth in the riders’ championship. With only a handful of points separating him from those competitors above him, Vierge will be aiming to move himself up the Moto2 World Standing in this final race.
Free Practice 1 will get underway for Vierge at 11.35am local time (7.35pm MYT) on Friday, with the final Moto2 race of the 2020 season due to commence at 12.20pm local time (8.20pm MYT) on Sunday.
This weekend is the final race of this season and I am really looking forward to it. It is at Portimão, which is a circuit that I really love and I have enjoyed riding there in the past. The track has uphill and downhill sections that really make you ride in a different way. There is one part where you are going uphill and then everything just disappears! You have to be really careful not to wheelie too much here. I am really happy with the progress that we have made this year, so thank you to the team for all their hard work. We will continue to give 100% in this last race and hopefully we can end the year with a great result.
